"Nothing is true and everything is permitted."

There's a place to begin with where this seems amusing. "How odd that other people have used this sentiment." Then it seems radical, then it seems dangerous - because you can only imagine it being utilized to say things you've heard as truths are untrue, only being used to do things that are unlawful. Then eventually, after another while, it gets ghostly. It's not even like you drove through tha fence and are falling. It's like you're in space. And that phrase is the only thing that remains to signal that there once was territory.
